Methadone Treatment: A Path to Recovery

Methadone is a widely recognized and highly effective treatment option for managing opioid addiction. As a long-acting opioid medication, methadone works by alleviating withdrawal symptoms, reducing cravings, and helping individuals experience a more gradual detox process. By minimizing these challenges, methadone significantly lowers the risk of relapse, making it a vital tool in the recovery journey.

How Methadone Treatment Works

To begin treatment at the Morse Clinics, patients must complete an intake process, which involves a comprehensive clinical assessment. This step ensures that medications for opioid use disorder treatment (MOUD) is the right option for each individual. During the assessment, our professional staff will gather detailed information about your physical health, psychosocial well-being, and drug use history. This mandatory screening process applies to all new patients, including those transferring from another program.

Once the intake process is complete, your Methadone dosage will be carefully determined by a staff medical provider. The dosage is based on your unique medical history and physical condition to ensure safe and effective treatment.

Cost of Treatment

Methadone $80 per week, regardless of dosage. However, treatment is free for Medicaid patients. If you have private insurance or no insurance at all, we strive to make our services as accessible as possible, offering transparent and affordable pricing.

The Dosing Process

When you arrive at one of our clinics, you will check in for dosing. At this time, the front desk staff will collect any required payments and notify you if a random toxicology screen is due before dosing. All medication is administered directly by a nurse to ensure safety and compliance with prescribed treatment plans.

Is Methadone Safe?

Research has consistently shown that methadone is safe when administered under the supervision of trained healthcare professionals. When taken as prescribed, methadone poses no significant short- or long-term health risks for most patients.

Methadone is designed to provide relief from opioid withdrawal symptoms and cravings with just one daily dose, helping patients avoid the need for other opioids. However, as a controlled substance, methadone has the potential for dependency if misused. It may also impair your ability to drive or operate machinery. If you experience side effects such as drowsiness, be sure to notify the nurses or counselors on duty immediately.

Potential Side Effects and Precautions

As with any medication, methadone may cause side effects. Common side effects include:

  • Respiratory or circulatory depression

  • Lightheadedness or dizziness

  • Sedation

  • Nausea or vomiting

  • Excessive sweating

To ensure your safety, it is extremely dangerous to consume benzodiazepines, alcohol, or other depressants while undergoing Methadone treatment. Combining these substances can increase the risk of severe complications, including respiratory distress.

Methadone During Pregnancy

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, methadone is considered safe for pregnant women battling opioid addiction. Receiving Methadone treatment during pregnancy does not harm the baby or the mother and can significantly improve maternal and fetal health outcomes.

At Morse Clinics, we are committed to providing compassionate and evidence-based care to help you overcome opioid addiction. Methadone treatment is just one of the many ways we support our patients on their journey to recovery. Take the first step toward a healthier future with us.
