Oral Naltrexone Treatment: An FDA-Approved Option for Opioid Use Disorder

Oral naltrexone is an FDA-approved medication for treating opioid use disorder in individuals who have been opioid-free for at least five consecutive days. It works by blocking the effects of opioids, reducing the risk of relapse and supporting long-term recovery.

At Morse Clinics, oral naltrexone can be prescribed following an evaluation by one of our medical providers. The recommended dosage typically ranges between 50 mg and 150 mg daily. This medication does not require prior authorization, making it a convenient option for eligible patients.

Requirements for Treatment

To ensure comprehensive care, patients receiving oral naltrexone at Morse Clinic must:

  • Provide toxicology test results regularly.

  • Participate in counseling sessions at the clinic, which are designed to address emotional and psychological factors contributing to addiction.

Cost and Payment Options

Treatment costs may vary depending on your insurance coverage:

  • Medicaid or Medicare: If you are enrolled in a plan we contract with, your services may be provided at no cost.

  • Other Insurance or No Insurance: The cost is $250 per month, which includes clinic services, plus the cost of the medication or your copay (which may vary at your chosen pharmacy). Payment is required in advance.

Flexibility in Treatment Options

At Morse Clinics, we understand that recovery journeys differ for everyone. If oral naltrexone is not the right fit or if your needs change, you can seamlessly transition to other medications, such as methadone or sublingual buprenorphine, through our Opioid Treatment Program (OTP). This transition can be made after an additional consultation with our medical providers to ensure the best approach for your recovery.

Morse Clinics is committed to providing evidence-based and compassionate care to help you achieve long-term recovery. To learn more about oral naltrexone and how it can support your path to a healthier future, contact us today.
